This Year 1 Sort Objects Teaching PPT introduces children to the key skills they need to sort items by size, colour, shape or feature. Children learn how to look closely at different features and group objects using clear sorting rules and mathematical language.

The PPT is organised into Main Teaching sections, where new concepts and vocabulary are modelled step by step and Varied Fluency sections, where children can apply their understanding straight away through short, engaging activities.

To build confidence and deepen understanding, the PPT also includes a reasoning and problem‑solving question that encourages children to explain their choices and sort objects in different contexts.

The final slide provides a real life relatable problem for pupils to solve.
