Planning
An image of the Punctuation Apostrophes Guidance Resource

Let us save you valuable planning time when it comes to teaching your class how to use apostrophes for contract and possession. Instead, use our Year 2 Punctuation Apostrophes Guidance and the accompanying resources for each lesson. It's versatile and can be used by any adult during the lesson, or as a guide to how the lesson should be taught.

This document includes a timetable with a proposed overview for the whole year so that you can see where this fits in with other grammar works. You also get links to where the work fits in with the national curriculum and a suggested breakdown of these objectives into a sequenced set of lessons. Each lesson, or small step, has its own page with a notes and guidance section that gives you a suggestion on what children should already know when they begin this unit of work, and there's an expected outcome shared too. In addition, we've included a set of focused questions that can be used at the start of the lesson, or throughout to check children's understanding.
