Presented in a format similar to that used in formal assessments to build familiarity with those, this assessment can be used as a baseline at the start of the half-term or as an assessment at the end of the half-term. Spelling objectives covered in this baseline assessment:

• S37 Pack 5: Year 2 common exception words

• S29 and S30: The /ee/ sound spelt ‘ey’ and the /o/ sound spelt ‘a’ after ‘w’ or ‘qu’

• S31 and S32: The /er/ sound spelt ‘or’ after ‘w’ and the /or/ sound spelt ‘ar’ after ‘w’

• S33 and S37: The /zh/ sound spelt ‘s’ and Year 2 common exception words

• S34: The suffixes ‘–ment’,‘–ness’, ‘–ful’ , ‘–less’ and ‘–ly’
