This Year 2 Spring 2 Baseline Assessment is designed to assess understanding of spelling objectives covered during this term when following our suggested spelling sequence.
Presented in a format similar to that used in formal assessments to build familiarity with those, this assessment can be used as a baseline at the start of the half-term or as an assessment at the end of the half-term. Spelling objectives covered in this baseline assessment:
S22: The /igh/ sound spelt ‘y’ at the end of words
S23: Adding ‘–es’ to words ending in ‘y’, with a spelling change
S24: Adding ‘–ing’, ‘–ed’, ‘–er’ or ‘–est’ to words ending in ‘y’
S25: Adding ‘-ing’, ‘-ed’, ‘-er’, ‘-est’ or ‘–y’ to words ending in a consonant then ‘e’
S26: Adding ‘–ing’, ‘–ed’, ‘–er’, ‘–est’ or ‘–y’ to words of one syllable ending in a single consonant
S27 and S28: The /or/ sound spelt ‘a’ and the /uh/ sound spelt ‘o’
Curriculum Objectives
- the /aɪ/ sound spelt –y at the end of words
- adding –es to nouns and verbs ending in –y
- adding –ed, –ing, –er and –est to a root word ending in –y with a consonant before it
- adding the endings –ing, –ed, –er, –est and –y to words ending in –e with a consonant before it
- adding –ing, –ed, –er, –est and –y to words of one syllable ending in a single consonant letter after a single vowel letter
- the /ɔ:/ sound spelt a before l and ll
- the /ʌ/ sound spelt o
