Push children's properties of shape understanding to the next level with this engaging Year 3 Parallel and Perpendicular Discussion Problem. This resource is made up of two challenging problem-solving questions that require children to have a secure knowledge of what parallel and perpendicular lines are. Both questions can be attempted multiple times as there are numerous answers. Each question requires different investigative skills too.

Use as a challenge activity in class for pairs, small groups, or competent independent learners. Alternatively, you could open the discussion up to the whole class to encourage mathematical language development and investigation work. An example answer for both questions is provided for children to compare their answers with. This is a great opportunity to address any misconceptions, or use this as a way to encourage children to find multiple answers for each question!
