Year 3 Partition Numbers to 1,000 Deeper Reasoning Discussion Problem consists of one open ended question that is not easily solvable, promotes discussion and has multiple solutions. The questions in this set focus on using the given clues to identify the possible numbers to deepen understanding in recognising the place vale of each digit in a three-digit number.
Our discussion problems are a unique offering at Classroom Secrets and are designed for to challenge your children who fly through everything, allowing them to stay within their year group but still have their capabilities stretched. We believe in progress for every child, not just the average child. We call them discussion problems so that children can build their oracy skills as they are designed to be solved in pairs or small groups.
Our deeper reasoning discussion problem resources are not just about differentiation, but differentiation in an adaptive way. They work best alongside our adaptive maths lessons and are designed to be given to children who have gained a thorough understanding by using our Partition Numbers to 1,000 Reasoning and Problem Solving worksheets and are ready for richer discussion, explanation, justification or stretching beyond the main learning. Most children will not move onto these, but some will.
Adaptive Maths Resources are not a separate lower-attainment route. They provide temporary and responsive support to help pupils access the same intended learning.
