Use this Year 5 The First Quadrant Reasoning and Problem Solving resource to allow your class to test their knowledge of coordinates and coordinate grids with some problem solving. There are two reasoning questions which ask them to check whether coordinates and statements about shapes on a coordinate grid are correct. They then have to explain their ideas using mathematical language. There is also a problem solving question which requires them think flexibly in order to find two separate solutions.
There are two similar parts to each question to promote confidence and an answer sheet to help teachers and pupils who are marking their own work.
A varied fluency resource and a fluency matrix is also available for this small step.
