This Year 5 Word Classes Prior Learning resource reviews children's knowledge of prefixes, suffixes and word families in preparation for the work they will do on word classes in this small step.

The three varied fluency questions focus on the key idea that prefixes and suffixes can be added to a root word to change its meaning whilst the application and reasoning questions ask children to create or explain three different word families.

An answer sheet is included to make marking quick and easy and to encourage self or peer marking.
