Consolidate understanding of finding pairs of values with at least one multiple by using this resource.

This Year 6 Find Pairs of Values 2 Fluency Matrix worksheet will help children understand how to enumerate and calculate pairs of values that could satisfy an equation, where one of the unknown values may be a multiple (e.g. 2a + b = 7). This resource is designed to support this small step and the preceding small step (find pairs of values 1, where equations will not contain a multiple).

In this resource, children will use shapes to represent numbers to find pairs of values, then solve equations and find pairs of numbers that can satisfy an equation. They will then list pairs of values that can satisfy a given equation and find pairs of values to satisfy a real-life word problem. All answers are provided for ease of marking!

A varied fluency resource and reasoning and problem solving sheet are also available for this small step, as well as for the previous small step that this fluency matrix is aligned to.

Curriculum Objectives

  • Find pairs of numbers that satisfy an equation with two unknowns
  • Enumerate possibilities of combinations of two variables
