Continue the Year 6 Science unit on electricity with this How Has Electricity Changed Our Lives? Lesson.

In this PowerPoint, pupils will learn key vocabulary then recap prior learning about conducting materials and how a circuit with a battery, a switch and two bulbs would work. They will learn about the history of electricity: where it is found in nature, the discoveries of Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Edison, the rise of electrical appliances and how these inventions impact our daily lives.

For their first task, they will write about a specific electrical invention as either a discussion or persuasion about how it has changed our lives for better or worse, supported by a bank of phrases, example texts and Success Criteria, with further explanations about how to debate effectively. For task two, they will research the history of computers to link to aspects of the Computing curriculum.
