Help children understand adaptation and evolution with this Year 6 How Have Living Things Changed Over Time? PowerPoint.
In this lesson, pupils look at the process of evolution through examples such as the peppered moth and the giraffe. They will learn a range of key words that apply to the topic, such as characteristics, inherited, offspring and species, then learn about how the Industrial Revolution in Great Britain advantaged a particular type of peppered moth and then apply that learning to consider how giraffes have evolved over millions of years. As tasks, children will write diaries as peppered moths and research how a chosen organism has evolved over time.
National Curriculum Objectives:
Recognise that living things have changed over time and that fossils provide information about living things that inhabited the Earth millions of years ago.
