Take your Year 6 class on an adventure with this Year 6 Katherine Rundell Cross-Curricular Activity pack, inspired by the work of Katherine Rundell. Over five activities, children create and explore their own mythical archipelago, using skills from across the curriculum to bring their imaginary world to life.
Children begin as cartographers in geography. They design an island chain with at least five geographical features, a key and an 8-point compass. In art, they research a famous artwork featuring a mythical creature, then draw and label it. Next, they turn engineers in DT and science, designing a machine with gears, levers or pulleys to rescue a creature in peril. Their science skills are put to the test when they build a winged creature designed to maximise air resistance, then time its fall and compare results with their classmates. Finally, in PE, teams design and set up an obstacle course for one another, complete with rivers to cross and stepping stones to navigate.
Each activity is presented on a clear, ready-to-use sheet with space for children to plan, sketch, record and evaluate their work. Teacher notes include extension ideas, suggested artists to research and safety guidance, so the pack is easy to pick up and use. It is ideal for a themed week, an enrichment afternoon or as a companion to reading Katherine Rundell’s books in class. Download it today and let your class’s imagination take flight!
