This Year 6 Shape Mistake Investigators includes a range of reasoning and problem-solving style questions that are similar to questions children could encounter on their SATs papers. The questions are designed to be answered in groups to promote discussion and development of reasoning skills.

The questions cover the shape and volume objectives from the National Curriculum and build on skills learnt throughout our resources: recognise that shapes with the same area can have different perimeters and vice versa, calculate the area of parallelograms and triangles, and use formulae to calculate area and volume of shapes.

If you're looking for something that will help your children develop their skills and help them to become more investigative learners, you're in the right place.

Curriculum Objectives

  • Recognise that shapes with the same areas can have different perimeters and vice versa
  • Calculate the area of parallelograms and triangles
  • Recognise when it is possible to use formulae for the area of shapes
  • Calculate, estimate and compare volume of cubes and cuboids using standard units, including cubic centimetres (cm3) and cubic metres (m3), and extending to other units [for example, mm3 and km3]
  • Recognise when it is possible to use formulae for the volume of shapes
