This Year 6 Substitution Teaching PowerPoint builds on pupils' understanding of expressions. Pupils will begin to substitute values into pictorial representations of expressions and then move onto algebraic notation.

The learning is broken into Let’s Learn sections, where new learning and vocabulary is modelled and Let’s Practise sections, where pupils immediately apply what has been taught in small sections.

To deepen understanding, this resource includes a reasoning question and a problem solving question to give pupils the opportunity to apply knowledge in new contexts.
