Use this Year 6 Volume (Counting Cubes) Reasoning and Problem Solving resource to get your class counting cubes to solve and explain problems.
The first two questions are reasoning questions which ask them to decide whether a statement is correct based on their own calculations. These two questions focus on irregular shapes made from cubes and it may be helpful for children to be able to build these in the classroom. In the third question, they solve a problem with two solutions. Can they find both solutions? There are two similar versions of each question to promote independence.
An answer sheet is included for teachers and children who are self marking their work.
A varied fluency resource is also available for this small step.
