Use this Year 6 Volume (Counting Cubes) Varied Fluency resource to give your class practice counting cubes to calculate the volume of a shape.
The first two questions focus on irregular shapes made from cubes and it may be helpful for children to be able to build these to assist with counting the cubes. In the third question, they progress to completing statements about shapes with identical layers. This will prepare them for the next step, working out the volume using a formula. There are two similar versions of each question to promote fluency.
An answer sheet is included for teachers and children who are self marking their work.
A reasoning and problem solving resource is also available for this small step.
