War Horse Chapter 16 Comprehension Whole Class Guided Reading

War Horse Chapter 16 Comprehension for Whole Class Guided Reading includes differentiated questions and activities based on chapter sixteen of the popular novel by Michael Morpurgo. We recommend using this novel with Year 5 & Year 6. In this chapter, Joey is trapped in no man's land. The soldiers on either side call to him but every time he goes towards them, he is stopped by the barbed wire. Eventually, one soldier from either side cuts through their barbed wire and comes to Joey's rescue. The soldiers - one German, one Welsh - discuss the logistics of who should take the horse. They decide a coin toss is the fairest way and the Welsh soldier wins. They both believe that they could sort the war out amongst themselves if they were given the chance. The Welsh soldier takes Joey's rope and leads back towards the side Joey originally start the war on.
