Use this engaging KS1 5-Minute Computing resource during Computer Science Education Week (CSEd Week) to help inspire children to explore computer science and celebrate the contributions of pioneers in the field.

This quick computing resource contains three sets of four questions, each followed by an answer slide, making it ideal for starters, plenaries or short retrieval sessions. The questions revisit key Key Stage 1 computing knowledge across three strands. In algorithms and programming, children order instructions, choose the clearest instruction, spot tasks that can be explained with an algorithm, continue an algorithm to draw a square and complete a hand-washing sequence, as well as using the vocabulary debug and predict. In online safety, they name trusted people who can help, identify information that must be kept private and decide what to do first if something online worries them. In technology in our lives, they recognise jobs that use the internet, match everyday activities to the best technology and identify items that can run programs.

Computer Science Education Week is held annually in whichever week the 9th December falls to honour the celebrated computer scientist, Grace Hopper.
