This KS1 Rise and Read Burns Night resource includes four reading activities focused on the traditions of Burns Night. It is suitable for use in Years 1 and 2 and could be displayed on the whiteboard as early morning work, used in reading or PSHE lessons or even as a stimulus in assemblies. However you choose to use it, children will not only sharpen their reading skills but also learn more about this celebration.

The pack includes an information text, a story, an image and a poem. These lead to questions which focus on a variety of reading skills: retrieval, purpose, vocabulary, inference and prediction. There is also an assessment style question with a focus on the author's intent.
