Check children's understanding of creating suffixes with this no nonsense and easy-to-complete Key Stage 2 Adding a Suffix to Make an Adjective from a Noun Test Practice. This resource offers your class the chance to turn nouns into adjectives in a simple table layout. Children are faced with 16 nouns that they need to add a suffix onto to create adjectives. These cover various spelling rules that are suitable for children across key stage 2. This resource is differentiated into three levels of challenge and there are two tests per level.

Use this as part of your ongoing assessments in class to show progress, or to see whether there are any gaps in children's learning and inform any interventions. You could also use this as a homework activity or an extension task too; the choice is up to you! Each test comes with a handy answer sheet that can be used by you, or give it to your class for a peer or self-assessment tool.

Differentiation:

Beginner Children to add the suffix, the noun does not change in any way, e.g. care + ful = careful and wind + y = windy.

Easy Children to add the suffix. The ending of the noun changes when the suffix is added to make an adjective, e.g. centre = central, fury = furious and misery = miserable

Tricky Children to add the suffix with challenging vocabulary and spelling, e.g. benefit = beneficial and mischief = mischievous.
