This KS2 Rise and Read Pirates resource includes four reading activities focused on pirates. It is suitable for use in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 and could be displayed on the whiteboard as early morning work, used in reading lessons or even as a stimulus in assemblies. However you choose to use it, children will not only sharpen their reading skills but also learn more about the world around them.

The pack includes two information texts, a poem and an image. These lead to questions which focus on a variety of reading skills: retrieval, purpose, vocabulary, inference and prediction. There is also an assessment-style question with a focus on identifying true/false statements. If you're looking for cross-curricular links, you could use this alongside other pirate-based literacy texts or as an oceans themed activity.
