If you're helping your class to recognise and analyse different types of writing, this KS2 Sorting Features of an Advert Pack is a very flexible and engaging way to teach them about the style and content of writing produced for advertising.

Differentiated six ways, with a practical activity and worksheet version of the sorting task provided at each level, there's so much flexibility and choice built into this pack. The task itself involves putting text features into the correct columns, based on whether they would typically be found in an advert or not. The practical version would work brilliantly as a group task. The worksheet version is a great way to record findings as a group, or to do the exercise solo. It's up to you!

  • English Year 3 & Year 4: Discussing writing similar to that which they are planning to write in order to understand and learn from its structure, vocabulary and grammar.
  • English Year 5 & Year 6: Identifying the audience for and purpose of the writing, selecting the appropriate form and using other similar writing as models for their own.
