This KS2 War Horse Chapter 9 Whole Class Guided Reading Pack includes differentiated questions and activities based on chapter nine of the popular novel by Michael Morpurgo. We recommend using this novel with Year 5 & Year 6.
In this chapter, Joey and Topthorn are taken to a medical tent where they are greeted by wounded soldiers. One of the soldiers takes charge and orders the others to look after the heroic horses. Joey and Topthorn are put to work pulling carts to the front line to help injured soldiers get back to the medical tent. Topthorn is scared as he has never pulled a cart before, so Joey offers him comfort and shows him what to do. The horses are given a warm, dry stable to stay in for the night and for the first time since coming to the war, they are content.
This pack contains colour-coded questions to ensure clear differentiation, as well as differentiated challenge tasks focussed upon sentence types, character emotions, mood, similes and metaphors.
