This Year 1 Counting, Reading and Writing Numbers Mistake Investigators resource includes a range of carefully designed questions that encourage children to develop their reasoning and problem-solving skills by identifying and explaining mistakes.

For each objective, there are four questions with one correct answer and three incorrect answers. Children are challenged to spot the mistake, decide which answer is correct and explain their reasoning.

The questions are designed to be answered in groups to promote discussion. The questions cover a range of objectives such as reading and writing numbers to 20 in numerals and words, counting, reading and writing numbers to 50 and then 100 in numerals. A range of representations such as number lines, Base 10 equipment and other models are used to support.
