Give children an immersive opportunity to explore partitioning within 100 with this Year 1 Partition into Tens and Ones within 100 Supporting Activity. Children will work in pairs to identify a number on a 100 square and partition the number into tens and ones using Base 10. Children may use blank part-whole models to support with their partitioning.

Set up as an independent task within your lesson or give it to children as an extension. The choice is entirely yours!


Curriculum Objectives

  • Count to and across 100, forwards and backwards, beginning with 0 or 1, or from any given number
  • Count in multiples of twos, fives and tens
  • Count, read and write numbers to 100 in numerals
  • Identify and represent numbers using objects and pictorial representations including the number line, and use the language of: equal to, more than, less than (fewer), most, least
  • Given a number, identify one more and one less
