Are your pupils confident in multiplying 2 digits by 1 digit and ready for something more challenging? Our Year 3 multiplication resource includes 3 differentiated worksheets, each with 6 tricky questions. Children will use their knowledge of multiplication to justify whether calculations are correct, use clues to identify a mystery number and use digit cards to solve calculations. This resource can be used independently, in pairs or in small groups.

Differentiation:

(Developing) Questions to support multiplying a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number

(with no exchanges) using knowledge of the 2, 3, 4, 5 and 8 times tables. Supported with

pictorial representations and scaffolding for all questions.

(Expected) Questions to support multiplying a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number

(with no exchanges) using knowledge of the 2, 3, 4, 5 and 8 times tables. Supported with

some pictorial representations and some incomplete calculations.

(Greater Depth) Questions to support multiplying a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number

(with no exchanges) using knowledge of the 2, 3, 4, 5, and 8 times tables. Some missing

numbers within calculations alongside partial pictorial representation.

Curriculum Objectives

  • Recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 3, 4 and 8 multiplication tables
  • Write and calculate mathematical statements for multiplication and division using the multiplication tables that they know, including for two-digit numbers times one-digit numbers, using mental and progressing to formal written methods
  • Solve problems, including missing number problems, involving multiplication and division, including positive integer scaling problems and correspondence problems in which n objects are connected to m objects
