Help children to grasp a clear understanding of multiplying without exchanges with this ready-to-complete Year 3 Multiply a 2-Digit Number by a 1-Digit Number - No Exchange resource. We've created four different question types for children to practise the skills required for the objectives covered and there are two opportunities per question style. This resource has been differentiated three ways to support all learners. Below is a brief outline of how each level of differentiation differs per level of challenge:

Developing: Questions to support multiplying a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number

(with no exchanges) using knowledge of the 2, 3, 4, 5 and 8 times tables. Supported with pictorial representations and scaffolding for all questions.

Expected: Questions to support multiplying a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number

(with no exchanges) using knowledge of the 2, 3, 4, 5 and 8 times tables. Supported with some pictorial representations and some incomplete calculations.

Greater Depth: Questions to support multiplying a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number

(with no exchanges) using knowledge of the 2, 3, 4, 5, and 8 times tables. Some missing numbers within calculations alongside partial pictorial representation.

Use this resource as an independent learning activity for children to showcase their skills. Alternatively, this could be used in a small intervention group to either challenge children further or to provide more support to those who need it. A clear and concise answer sheet has been provided to aid marking or this could be used for peer or self marking too.

Curriculum Objectives

  • Recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 3, 4 and 8 multiplication tables
  • Write and calculate mathematical statements for multiplication and division using the multiplication tables that they know, including for two-digit numbers times one-digit numbers, using mental and progressing to formal written methods
  • Solve problems, including missing number problems, involving multiplication and division, including positive integer scaling problems and correspondence problems in which n objects are connected to m objects
