Discover which materials are magnetic in this engaging Year 3 Which Materials Are Magnetic? Investigation Lesson.
In this Year 3 lesson, children will learn that some materials are magnetic while others are not. Pupils will begin by revisiting the idea that magnets can exert a force without needing contact, and will build on this by testing a variety of everyday materials - both metal and non-metal - to determine whether or not they are magnetic. Through hands-on investigation, pupils will compare and group a variety of objects based on whether they are magnetic or non-magnetic. They will record their observations and use their results to identify common features of magnetic materials, developing their scientific enquiry and reasoning skills along the way.
You can use our Is It Magnetic? Worksheet with this lesson too.
