Use this Year 6 Explore Shapes with the Same Area Varied Fluency resource to allow your class to investigate how different shapes can have the same area. There are three questions that cover drawing rectilinear shapes, using mathematical language with stem sentences and calculating the area of rectilinear shapes.

Unlike our usual resources, this worksheet has been created landscape style with questions 1a, 2a and 3a on one sheet and questions 1b, 2b and 3b on another. An answer sheet is included in a similar style on pages 3 and 4 of the resource.

A reasoning and problem solving resource is available for this small step.

Curriculum Objectives

  • Recognise that shapes with the same areas can have different perimeters and vice versa
