Let us save you valuable planning time when it comes to teaching your class how to use different forms of punctuation when writing a list. Instead, use our Year 6 Punctuation 1 Unit Plan and the accompanying resources for each lesson! It's a versatile document designed to be used by any adult during the lesson, or as a guide to how the lesson should be taught.

This unit focuses on how to punctuate lists using a colon, semi-colon and bullet points.

This document includes a timetable with a proposed overview for the whole year so that you can see where this set of lessons fit in with other grammar work. You also get links to where the work fits in with the national curriculum and a suggested breakdown of these objectives into a sequenced set of lessons.

Each lesson, or small step, has its own page with a notes and guidance section that gives you a suggestion of what children should already know when they begin this unit of work, and there's an expected outcome shared too. In addition, we've included a set of focused questions that can be used at the start of the lesson, or throughout to check children's understanding.
