Your class won't be lost in translation with this Year 6 Translations Discussion Problem! This worksheet will give your children the chance to put all the position and direction skills to the test. With multiple outcomes, this resource could be used a number of times throughout the year. The resource consists of two questions where children will be translating shapes on all four quadrants in each activity. They will hone not only their translating skills but also their scale reading skills and their descriptions of position and direction skills too.

Use in class as a challenge activity at the end of the lesson. This can be used in pairs or small groups, which makes it ideal for an intervention activity too. Children can compare their outcomes to the example answer page too. We'd recommend that children have a secure understanding of objectives covered in this lesson before attempting this deeper thinking challenge. You can achieve this by working through the accompanying resources in the lesson.

Curriculum Objectives

  • Draw and translate simple shapes on the coordinate plane, and reflect them in the axes
  • Describe positions on the full coordinate grid (all four quadrants)
