Children will continue to build their confidence and understanding of measurements by using this Year 1 Measure Mass homework resource. Our measuring mass activity includes two varied fluency questions and one problem solving question per worksheet. This resource has been differentiated three ways to support all learners. Below is a brief outline of how our differentiation differs per level of challenge:

Developing: Questions to support measuring mass using one type of non-standard unit.

Expected: Questions to support measuring mass using a variety of non-standard units. Using comparative language; more than, less than.

Greater Depth: Questions to support measuring mass using a variety of non-standard units. Using comparative language; more than, less than. The mass of an object is sometimes doubled or halved to find an answer.

Use in class as an extension activity or as part of a continuous provision activity.

Curriculum Objectives

  • Compare, describe and solve practical problems for: lengths and heights [for example, long/short, longer/shorter, tall/short, double/half]; mass/weight [for example, heavy/light, heavier than, lighter than]; capacity and volume [for example, full/empty, more than, less than, half, half full, quarter]; Time [for example, quicker, slower, earlier, later]
  • Measure and begin to record mass/weight
  • Measure and begin to record: lengths and heights; mass/weight; capacity and volume; time (hours, minutes, seconds)
