Y1 Grammar Punctuation and Spelling

Recognising and Using '-ing' '-ed' '-er' Lesson

This Recognising and Using 'ing', 'ed' and 'er' lesson covers the prior learning of using verbs, before moving onto the main skill of adding the suffixes 'ing', 'ed' and 'er' to verbs.

The lesson starts with a prior learning activity to check pupils’ understanding. If they need more practice, you can choose other resources for that step. Children can then practise further by completing the activities and can extend their learning with engaging reasoning and application tasks.

National Curriculum Objective
English Year 1: (1G6.3) Suffixes that can be added to verbs where no change is needed in the spelling of root words (e.g. helping, helped, helper)
