This Year 3 Place Value Mistake Investigators resource offers a variety of carefully structured questions designed to strengthen children’s reasoning and problem-solving skills by identifying and explaining mistakes.

Each objective includes four questions: one correct answer and three incorrect options. Children are encouraged to spot the mistakes, decide which answer is correct, and explain their thinking.

The questions are intended for group work, to spark discussion and collaborative learning. They cover key place value objectives, including ordering and comparing numbers up to 1,000, reading and writing numbers to 1,000 in both numerals and words and finding 10 or 100 more or less than a given number. A range of visual supports, such as number lines, place value charts and part-whole models are provided.

If you’re looking for a resource that helps children develop their reasoning skills while becoming more confident, investigative learners, this is the perfect choice!
