Switch Off Fortnight is a good chance for Year 5 and Year 6 pupils to look at energy use in more detail. This challenge sheet has 14 tasks. As well as everyday switch-offs, it asks children to find out how much energy their home uses in a day, compare two appliances and look into what happens when devices are left on standby. Pupils colour in each challenge as they complete it and record their total at the end.
The sheet is designed to be printed and sent home with every pupil. Several of the research tasks need information from home, so it helps to hand it out early in the fortnight and give families time to get involved.
The figures pupils collect are real data, so you could bring them into maths lessons on tables and graphs, or ask children to present what they found to the class.
Switch Off Fortnight can also be one part of a bigger sustainability project. Our Sustainability resources and Earth Day resources cover other ways children can look after the environment.
