Use this engaging Year 6 Subjunctive Form in Formal Speech and Writing Mixed Activity worksheet to support children with their understanding of using the subjunctive verb form in formal writing. With three varied fluency, one reasoning and two application questions, children are given the opportunity to practise answering questions which require the need to use the subjunctive in sentences.

This resource would make an excellent assessment for teaching staff to use to gauge what the children understand about formal writing and the subjunctive. It comes with a useful answer sheet to help with self or peer marking.

  • The difference between structures typical of informal speech and structures appropriate for formal speech and writing [for example, the use of question tags: He’s your friend, isn’t he?, or the use of subjunctive forms such as If I were or Were they to come in some very formal writing and speech]
