Year 1 and homework. The parents are keen; the kids are... keen. But you need something that requires zero input, or brief input from parents. So try this Year 1 Compare Statements activity. It can be used as an extension in class, or sent home as part of homework, and builds on the types of questions that children have encountered already within the reasoning and problem-solving, and varied fluency resource. The resource is made up of two varied fluency questions and one reasoning style question.


Curriculum Objectives

  • Read and write numbers from 1 to 20 in numerals and words
  • Identify and represent numbers using objects and pictorial representations including the number line, and use the language of: equal to, more than, less than (fewer), most, least
  • Read, write and interpret mathematical statements involving addition (+), subtraction (–) and equals (=) signs
  • Solve one-step problems involving multiplication and division, by calculating the answer using concrete objects, pictorial representations and arrays with the support of the teacher
