Want an activity to give children extra practice when comparing mathematical statements? If yes, then, why not try this Year 1 Compare Statements 2 activity, an activity that has been designed to give support to those children who may not be feeling too confident comparing mathematical statements. The active can be done in groups and can be used in class or as part of a small group intervention. Instructions and a list of resources are also provided. Curriculum Objectives

  • Identify and represent numbers using objects and pictorial representations including the number line, and use the language of: equal to, more than, less than (fewer), most, least
  • Read, write and interpret mathematical statements involving addition (+), subtraction (–) and equals (=) signs
  • Solve one-step problems that involve addition and subtraction, using concrete objects and pictorial representations, and missing number problems such as 7 = __ 9
  • Compare and order numbers from 0 up to 100; use <, > and = signs
