Use this engaging Year 2 Adding 'ment', 'er' and 'ness' Prior Learning worksheet to assess children's understanding of adding suffixes. The focus of this resource is to recognise the ‘ing’, ‘ed’ and ‘er’ suffixes on verbs. With three fluency, two reasoning and one application question, children can familiarise themselves again with these suffixes from Year 1 before moving onto adding the Year 2 suffixes 'ment', 'er' and 'ness'.

This worksheet could be used with individuals or small groups of children who may need a little extra support before the main learning of this lesson. It could also be used as an informal assessment before the main lesson to identify misconceptions.
