Year 6 Formal and Informal
This Year 6 Recognising Formal and Informal Writing Mixed Activity resource is ideal for covering a range of questions about formal and informal writing. By completing the three varied fluency, two reasoning and one application questions children will deepen their understanding of recognising formal and informal writing.
This worksheet is suitable for independent, small group or paired work. It could also be used as an intervention. An answer sheet is provided which also could be used for peer or self marking to make marking and misconception checking quicker and easier.
Curriculum Objectives
- The difference between vocabulary typical of informal speech and vocabulary appropriate for formal speech and writing [for example, find out – discover; ask for – request; go in – enter]
- The difference between structures typical of informal speech and structures appropriate for formal speech and writing [for example, the use of question tags: He’s your friend, isn’t he?, or the use of subjunctive forms such as If I were or Were they to come in some very formal writing and speech]
