Deepen understanding of how to solve an equation with one unknown by using this resource.
This Year 6 Solving Equations with One Unknown Reasoning and Problem Solving worksheet will help children understand how to calculate the value of one unknown (represented by a letter) in an equation. Children will reason if children have solved an equation with one unknown correctly, investigate whether part-whole models have been correctly drawn to represent equations and finally write equations that use a given answer and contain one unknown. All answers are given so that marking is as simple as possible!
Note: question 3 introduces decimals and fractions but this can be removed if required.
A fluency matrix and a varied fluency resource are also available for this small step.
