Volume of a Cube (Using the Formula) Varied Fluency

Worksheet

Use this Year 6 Volume of a Cube (Using the Formula) Varied Fluency resource to allow your pupils to use the formula V=lwh to find the volume of a cube or cuboid.

The first two questions display cuboids and their measurements to reinforce the objective of the lesson. In the the third question, children progress to completing a table of measurements and volumes without the visual support of an image. This will require them to use division as well as multiplication. Examples using cubes are included at the end of the worksheet. There are two similar versions of each question to encourage fluency and confidence.

An answer sheet is included for teachers and children marking their own work.

A reasoning and problem solving resource is also available for this small step.

Curriculum Objectives

  • Calculate, estimate and compare volume of cubes and cuboids using standard units, including cubic centimetres (cm3) and cubic metres (m3), and extending to other units [for example, mm3 and km3]
  • Recognise when it is possible to use formulae for the volume of shapes
