Worksheet

This Year 1 'ing', 'ed' and 'er' writing task allows your children to put into practice what they have learnt about suffixes. This activity provides scaffolding for children to be able to write their own sentences using suffixes. There is a range of verbs which can be used as the root word to describe given images of children.

Children can complete this activity independently, in pairs or with adult support. We have also provided an example model answer to aid your marking.

Curriculum Objectives

  • Regular plural noun suffixes –s or –es [for example, dog, dogs; wish, wishes], including the effects of these suffixes on the meaning of the noun / Suffixes that can be added to verbs where no change is needed in the spelling of root words (e.g. helping, helped, helper) / Terminology for pupils: singular / Terminology for pupils: plural
