English Y1: Spelling - ow (/əʊ/)
English Y1: Words containing each of the 40+ phonemes already taught
English Y2: Learning new ways of spelling phonemes for which 1 or more spellings are already known, and learn some words with each spelling, including a few common homophones
Differentiation:
Beginner All words are separate and have an 'ow' sound to underline. Aimed at Year 1 Emerging.
Easy All words are separate. Some have an 'ow' sound to underline. Some words have no 'ow' sound but have an 'ow' (as in low) sound. Aimed at Year 1 Developing.
Tricky Words are in a rhyming text. Some have an 'ow' sound to underline. Most are at the end of the line. Aimed at Year 1 Secure/Year 2 Emerging.
Expert Words are in a text. Some have an 'ow' sound to underline at the end or middle of the word. There are other sounds to be ignored such as o and o-e. There are 'ow' (as in low) sounds which must not be underlined. Aimed at Year 1 Mastery/Year 2 Developing.
Brainbox Words are in a text. Some have an 'ow' sound to underline. There are other sounds to be identified such as o and o-e. There are 'ow' (as in low) sounds which must be identified. Aimed at Year 2 Secure.
