National Curriculum Objectives

We recommend teaching the terminology of noun in Year 1 so that children understand the difference between the word types and the jobs that they have within sentences. The resources for this step will include the terminology of noun.

Differentiation for Year 1 Nouns:

Varied Fluency
Developing Questions to support identifying common nouns. Using CVC and CCVC/CVCC words.
Expected Questions to support identifying common nouns. Using high frequency or phonetically decodable words.
Greater Depth Questions to support identifying common nouns. Includes some compound nouns and some words which are not easily decodable.

Application and Reasoning
Questions 1, 4 and 7 (Application)
Developing Write the noun which matches the given image using knowledge of common nouns. Uses CVC and CCVC/CVCC words.
Expected Write the noun which matches the given image using knowledge of common nouns. Uses high frequency or phonetically decodable words.
