Year 2 Tens and Ones Discussion Problem

Our Discussion Problems offer your children an in-depth question that has more than one possible answer to promote discussion within groups, exploration of different ways of thinking and different methods of calculating. Download this Year 2 Tens and Ones 1 Discussion Problem to give your children those opportunities when working with tens and ones. The DPs are designed to be used after our modelling PPT, VF and RPS worksheet so that children have had enough practise with the topic and have consolidated their learning already.

About this Resource

It provides pupils with more opportunities to enhance their reasoning and problem solving skills through more challenging problems. Pupils can work in pairs or small groups to discuss with each other about how best to tackle the problem, as there is often more than one answer or more than one way to work through the problem.

There may be various answers for each problem. Where this is the case, we have provided one example answer to guide discussion.

We recommend self or peer marking using the answer page provided to promote discussion and self-correction.
